Spring into action

April is famous for its showers. Stopping distances are increased on wet roads so allow at least twice as much time as usual – four seconds – to stop if the road is damp. Country roads at this time of year are a favourite not only for drivers but bikers, horse riders, pedestrians and animals, especially rabbits and pheasants. Be on the lookout and prepare yourself to expect them. If an animal darts out in front of you, don’t swerve uncontrollably. It’s better to have a broken light or dented bumper than a loss of control and crash.
